Tonight is the Full Moon in Capricorn. The brightest night symbolizes a chance to see most clearly.
The full moon is when the sun and moon are 180 degrees apart, forming an opposition. There’s a feeling of tension and a tendency to project. We see The Other during the full moon: Whoever or whatever seems far away or opposed to us. It’s a humbling and humanizing experience.
There’s a loud humming in our motel room from a generator next door. It sounds like someone is pointing a hairdryer directly against our wall. It works its way to a peak and then stops for a moment, only to start again. It was hard to fall asleep during that noise and it’s hard to write while I’m hearing it now. I freaking hate that noise. When it stops for a moment we hear the birdsong and peace of upstate New York. But then it starts again. Langston puts on white noise instead, which recalls the Year of Colic when we blasted white noise day and night to try to soothe a swaddled, screaming Lyndon. We both agree that hearing white noise again doesn’t help. Finally Lang brings me his headphones and his phone, which is playing ocean sounds. Much better.
A noisy motel room is not the worst thing in the world. But it symbolizes something standing between me and a Cancer agenda of the inner life, feelings, creativity, comfort. Today presents us with a hard stop or a chance to push forward. We have two more weeks to explore the Cancer New Moon cycle I describe here. What has been working for you and what hasn’t? Can you try some new methods or let in the help of someone who wants to see you succeed?
It’s probably a very New York approach to say look at what really annoys you today, but today’s full moon has some of that grit. The moon and Pluto in Capricorn are opposing the sun and Mars in Cancer. That can set the stage for some intense feelings and anger. You may have to take an action for your own inner peace, or someone may show up to help you. But in the unrest of those feelings lies an important clue for your well-being and next steps.
Resist the urge to give up. Look to see where the Cancer/Capricorn axis is in your chart and reflect on the meaning and relevance of those signs and houses to you. Take some time tonight to look at the moon, and take time today to reflect. And try to keep the perspective of the long game. Something is worth a big effort, and if you take a moment to work through your frustrations, you’ll see clearly what it is.
