Happy Leo New Moon!
I was sitting at the dining room table this morning with my laptop open, looking at the New Moon chart and trying to collect my thoughts when Lang joined me. We started chatting. He started singing “New Moon” in a teasing falsetto to the tune of Blue Moon. Then he put on his headphones to give me some space. Out of the corner of my eye I saw him get up to fix himself breakfast. Finally he blew his nose loudly, the boom of a ship’s horn. This wasn’t working. I gathered my things to write in a different room.
With today’s New Moon the sun, moon and Mars line up in Leo. This symbolizes selfhood, emotions and action stirred up to create, to organize, to express. So what might make that difficult?
Well, on the one hand: others. In the opposition between Venus and Saturn we need some quiet and solitude to settle our minds and find peace. We have to balance relationship needs with time for self. That’s echoed in the Capricorn/Libra square between Jupiter and Pluto. Our relationships will help us expand and open our eyes to what’s new, but they can also limit us and distract us from our own power and source. This New Moon is asking us to carve out time and space for both, or to readjust if we’ve swung too far in either direction.
On the other hand, we alone might make things difficult: being a taskmaster toward ourselves or others, trying to control so much that we lose a sense of freedom and peace. This New Moon gives us a chance to be a better friend, especially to ourselves: More encouraging, more hopeful, more calm.
If you can find some time today and feel so inclined, set some New Moon intentions. Some guiding questions are:
- What do you want to create?
- What do you want to express?
- What fills you with joy or pleasure?
- How do you want to push forward in your healing?
- How do you want to show love to your family?
- Is it time to create more boundaries in your relationships?
- Has fear kept you from claiming your dignity or revealing yourself in the past?
- Is there a mark you want to leave?
- How can you shine right now?
Try to picture something that excites you or fills you with pride, and return to or reshape that image as the month progresses. And if others stumble in this Leo energy, coming on too strong around you, know that you don’t have to take on their baggage or stop shining. Take the high road. Trust and partner with a higher power, filled with comfort, courage and the essence of life.
