Yesterday morning while I was waiting in the rain with Lyndon at his bus stop, I saw a woman walking with a little blob that turned out to be a toddler waddling in a large black trash bag. The little one was wearing a backpack underneath, making her perfectly round with only her face and feet showing. Her Mom and I looked at each other and started to laugh. I’ve been there, both as a Mom and as a kid. I’ve hastily wrapped grocery bags around Lyndon’s head like bandanas, and when I was 9 during the California Raisins craze I wore a trash bag and sunglasses to lip sync "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" for my Grandma’s Leisure Club.

Life can be ridiculous and poignant at the same time. Do set your New Moon intentions if you haven’t already – around communication, movement, learning, speed, change, your voice – or any other Gemini keywords that inspire you. But as you go forward in the semi-dark remember that the moon rules memories and early childhood. See if any information you collect through your senses helps you see yourself and your experiences in a new light. I remember being slightly humiliated performing in that trash bag for a room full of my grandma’s elderly friends. But now that I’m older and I miss my grandma, I’m glad I performed for her. She liked to be able to brag about me. She would scold me if she had to hear from her friends instead of me that I was on the Principal’s List in high school. Instead I judged that information as silly and am only now learning to share my shining moments.

As you pay attention this month also try to share more without judging yourself. Try to listen better as an act of loving. And see if any moment that makes you laugh or wonder teaches you more about your past and the loving people who kept you safe and helped you form.
